    NWNU Confucius Institute at University of Khartoum Holds 3rd Chinese Teaching Methodology Seminar & Local Chinese Teachers Training Conference

    During November 24-26 local time, NWNU Confucius Institute at the University of Khartoum held the 3rd Chinese Teaching Methodology Seminar & Local Chinese Teachers Training Conference at the Convention Center of the Rotana International Hotel in Sudan. People attending and delivering speeches at the conference included Qin Yifen, Political Counselor of Chinese Embassy in Sudan, Zhang Haomiao, Cultural Attaché of Chinese Embassy in Sudan, Abulgassim Mohammed Elamin, Dean of the Language Institute at Karari University, Almoghera Babiker, Dean of the Academic Affairs of Baharley Institute, and Awadelkarim M Soliman, Director-General of the Khartoum International School. 30 Chinese teachers and 22 local Chinese teachers and student representatives in Sudan were present at the conference as well.


          During the three-day seminar, in the light of their own teaching experience, the conference participants exchanged views on how to promote Chinese teaching and cultural communication in Sudan. Tian He, Bai Yubo and Zhou Ping delivered lectures entitled "The Application and Value of Ancient Chinese characters in TCFL(Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language)", "On the Motivation of Chinese Grammar" and " the Cultural Connotation of Chinese Quantifiers" respectively.
    Xu Qian, Yang Jinhao and Ai Jinglang exchanged their views on how to update teaching philosophy, adjust teaching methods and effectively organize classroom teaching under the cross-cultural background. These views are conducive to exploring suitable teaching methods for Sudanese. Muhammad Saje and Iman, local Chinese teachers at the University of Khartoum, gave trial lectures on Chinese translation, grammar and elementary Chinese. Teachers present at the conference discussed and commented collectively on the lectures.
     
          In recent years, the teaching scale of the Confucius Institute at University of Khartoum is continuously expanded, the number of students is rising annually, and the teaching methods become increasingly diversified. However, problems in Chinese teaching are gradually highlighted. The Confucius Institutes holds Chinese teaching seminars and local teachers training conference annually to provide effective learning and communication platforms for Chinese teachers in Sudan, in order that problems in Chinese teaching can be solved timely.


          The 2016 teaching seminar is more specific and practical. It combined the Chinese teaching philosophy and practical teaching, paid attention to exchanges and cooperation among Chinese and Sudanese teachers, and laid more emphasis on the cultivation of local teachers. This seminar is of positive significance in improving research levels of Chinese teachers both in Sudan and China, and in enhancing the quality of Chinese teaching.
